Work to prevent landslides will leave part of the A259 near Winchelsea closed for two weeks.
The Highways Agency plans to cut down trees along the edge of the A259 between Station Road and Pipewell Gate, north of Winchelsea, to stabilise a verge.
The coppicing work will see the road reduced to one carriageway, with temporary traffic lights put in place from Monday.
Project manager Barry Hodgson said: "This coppicing work is essential to protect the verge during wet and wintry conditions and will prepare the ground for future work.
"New trees will grow from the roots and will attract wildlife, enabling the area to flourish. It is important to complete this work before the bird-nesting season begins."
