I hope Brighton and Hove City Council leader Ken Bodfish meant "lease" when he wrote the council was prepared to "donate" land for the Albion's proposed new stadium at Falmer (Letters, February 21).
Otherwise, another bunch of get-rich-quick directors may one day flog the land and leave the club without a home again, as happened with the Goldstone ground.
Even if the rent was set fairly low, it would at least provide some kind of income to our sadly depleted city coffers - after all, even when our empty council houses are quietly "trickled-through" to housing associations, the council still charges a token fee of £7,500 per property.
I would not like to be in Ken's shoes when the district auditor finds yet another act of financial irresponsibility has been committed by city hall.
Laughing he will be but not with mirth - more like Clouseau's mad boss in the Pink Panther films.
