"Room enough", from Samantha Hodder, head of communications at South Central (Letters, February 14), does not inform readers the company has deliberately designed its new trains to reduce cycle carriage.
Bricycles has had wide support from local councils, MPs and members of the public for improved cycle carriage on local trains.
South Central has placed cyclists in a very difficult position by the designation of a very limited amount of space as "shared" between cycles and wheelchair users.
Ms Hodder states South Central already has a policy of banning bikes at peak times but there is no enforcement of this ban.
Cyclists' journeys are to school and work and will take place at peak times.
Any attempt to enforce a peak-time ban will be extremely damaging to cycling. South Central's stated peak-time ban is extensive.
It will not only affect cyclists wanting to use their bikes on arrival in London but also using any station on the network and beyond.
This issue should have been dealt with by the Strategic Rail Authority but, like other government transport bodies, it has shown itself to be ineffective in protecting cycling as a mode of transport.
