Brighton need four more points to wrap up the Kent/Sussex Regional League title.
A 9-2 victory over Gillingham Anchorians on Saturday, coupled with a defeat for second placed Tunbridge Wells, has left Brighton within touching distance of the championship.
They could effectively be crowned champions this Saturday, providing they win at home to Blackheath.
That would leave Tunbridge Wells 12 points behind with only four games left. Of course, the Kent side would still be able to match Brighton's points total but the leaders have a plus 44 goal difference on their rivals which would be virtually impossible to make up.
Brighton skipper Carlo Missirian knows the importance of Saturday's game but stresses his side want the necessary four points in order for the celebrations to begin.
Missirian said: "We are aware of what a win on Saturday would mean but the great thing about this team is that we are not complacent.
"If we win on Saturday we will be in a very strong position but what we want to do is to get four points as quickly as possible.
"I might have a couple of shandies if we win on Saturday. At my age, though, I can only afford one big night out a season so we will wait until we have got the four points!"
Gillingham led 2-1 at one stage in the first half on Saturday but Brighton stormed back in the second half to take the points thanks to goals from Paul Watson (four), Craig Carolan (two), Dave Delea (two) and Pietro Attala.
Missirian said: "In the last few weeks we have been a bit edgy and nervous and that showed in the first half. At half time Bram (coach Bram van Asselt) had a few words. We talked about how we were playing and he reminded us how well we could play. He asked for ten goals but we only got nine!"
The chasing pack dropped points with Tunbridge Wells losing 4-2 at Maidstone and third placed Blackheath being held to a 2-2 draw at home by Mid Sussex.
Blackheath led 2-0 but Mids pulled a goal back just before half-time when Andy Green scored from close in following a short corner and Phil Middleton equalised in the second half from a deflected short corner.
