Churches across Eastbourne plan to toll their bells at precisely 6pm if war with Iraq is declared.
Church officials are urging people to gather at Our Lady of Ransom Church by the town hall in Grove Road when conflict begins.
They are planning a period of quiet reflection while troops are mobilised in an effort to topple Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
However, if war is declared on a Saturday or Sunday, an alternative venue will have to be found.
Meanwhile a meeting on the Iraqi crisis is being held at Christ Church in Seaside, Eastbourne, on Saturday, March 15, from 3pm.
Speakers will include Harold Dunning from the United Nations.
