I write with reference to a report on the sorry plight of Chris Naish, a garage proprietor in Hove (The Argus, February 27).

It is difficult to believe those whom we employ should be so diligent in the pursuit of one tax-paying citizen without so much as a faint misgiving that they had not made provision in their plans for those who earn a living working on cars that need to be put somewhere. Even worse is the suggestion that it is beyond the wit of the planners to find a solution for Mr Naish. Perhaps this is the price Hove has to pay for joining Big Brother?

For as long as I can remember, Brunswick Street East has been a bee-hive of motor trade activity that naturally resulted in cars being put all over the place. But it worked and I can't for the life of me comprehend the apparent re-designation of an area which is traditionally a trade road.

It would be interesting to know whether there is some other agenda, such as properties being bought cheaply to sell on at significant profits once the area has become "sanitised".
