Quick thinking neighbours stopped a caravan fire from spreading out of control.
Residents spotted flames just after 3.15am on Saturday morning and raised the alarm.
The caravan was parked on the driveway of an address in Lawrence Avenue, Rustington and the blaze could have spread to a nearby bungalow.
The vehicle also had gas cannisters inside, which could have exploded.
Firefighters from East Preston fire station arrived at the scene within minutes and brought the situation under control.
A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fire Brigade said: "Rapid intervention from firefighters prevented what was potentially a very serious fire in the early hours of the morning.
"Neighbours raised the alarm and crews quickly brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading into the adjacent property.
"The gas cannisters inside were taken outside and allowed to cool down."
The elderly resident living in the bungalow was led to safety by firefighters. She was unhurt.
An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire and foul play is not being ruled out.
