An injury to Tony Cornelius overshadowed another dominant performance by a fast improving St Leonards side who enjoyed little luck as they went down 1-0 at home to Erith & Belvedere.
Cornelius was the victim of a nasty lunge from Erith striker Marvin Neufville five minutes into stoppage time and sustained a suspected broken leg.
Saints manager Gary Bowyer was incensed at both the nature of the challenge and that only a yellow card was produced. He said: "It was a joke. For the ref to just book him was outrageous."
The eastern division hosts were easily the better side throughout but a combination of poor finishing, inspired goalkeeping and ill fortune cost them the game.
Phil Barber clipped the bar in the dying seconds, Abraham Patterson was denied by an unbelievable save from Clark Hunt, Jody Ricketts had an effort cleared off the line and numerous other efforts were only repelled by timely blocks.
Bowyer added: "I just can't believe we've lost that game. We can't do any more than that really. I think they had two shots in the whole match."
To rub salt into the home team's wounds, the winning goal was scored by their former player Jason Davey after an hour.
Meanwhile, Eastbourne Borough received a big boost to their promotion hopes, if not their title bid.
Borough, who did not have a game, stay second after the sides immediately below them, Stamford and Salisbury, shared a 0-0 draw.
Leaders Bashley increased their advantage at the top with a 5-1 home win over Histon.
