Tributes have been paid to a pensioner who was killed when a bus smashed into a shelter.
Iris Sawyer, 71, was outside County Mall, Crawley, on Monday when the single-deck bus careered into the shelter she was standing at.
Mrs Sawyer, of Furzefield, Crawley, was found under the bus by the emergency services and died at the scene.
Neighbour Rosina Murphy, 61, said: "She was a lovely lady.
"She always had a smile for people. We had been neighbours for more than 30 years. It is so distressing something like this could have happened. When her husband Eric died a few years ago she came to me for comfort.
"She was starting to piece her life together."
Sussex Police said today the 77-year-old man seriously injured in Monday's crash was still in hospital fighting for his life.
The pensioner suffered head injuries after the shelter collapsed and was taken to East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, along with an 80-year-old woman.
Both are from the Crawley area.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said the woman had a suspected fractured pelvis. Her injuries were said to be serious but not life-threatening.
Gary Wood, Metrobus operations director, said yesterday the driver of the single-deck bus would receive counselling for shock.
