Serious crashes on the A27 between Polegate and Lewes have almost trebled since 1994, it was revealed today.
There were 14 serious accidents in 2002 compared with just five in 1994, said Eastbourne Tory MP Nigel Waterson.
He tabled a Commons question to Transport Secretary Alistair Darling asking for a list of accidents in the last ten years.
He was told there had been 95 serious accidents between Polegate and Lewes, with 19 fatalities.
Mr Waterson today called for wholesale improvements, saying: "This is a dangerous road that is getting more dangerous all the time."
The road was left out of Mr Darling's £5.5 billion package of highway improvements announced in December.
Mr Waterson criticised the plans, most of which for key congestion areas in the North.
However, some campaigners, such as the A27 Action Group, have said improvements would harm the environment and do little to ease jams.
