More than 100 people have objected to plans to open an off-licence in a Mid Sussex village.
Residents fear an application to convert a house in Ditchling will kill business at a shop opposite the proposed site, Chestertons.
Chestertons uses alcohol sales to support its other business as a delicatessen and cafe.
Villagers said more than 100 letters of objection had been sent.
Ditchling Parish Council has objected to the application for 8 High Street, stating: "An off-licence in High Street would probably cause the demise of Chestertons, which provides an invaluable service for the village."
The application for the licence to sell alcohol will be heard by Lewes magistrates on Wednesday.
