As reported in The Argus, I was the victim of a break-in. The thief stole all my jewellery, much of it of irreplaceable sentimental value, including my engagement ring and eternity ring.
He also walked off with £30, the sponsorship money I had so far collected towards a charity walk I was doing.
The police were on the scene within minutes of being called and were extremely kind and sympathetic towards me.
In fact, PC Justin Burtenshaw was so disgusted he promised to get his colleagues to "dig deep in their pockets" to sponsor me.
Imagine my delight when he turned up the other day with a magnificent £75 cheque. What a wonderful gesture.
How are we going to manage without such caring policemen as they gradually become milked away by the Metropolitan force, with the incentive of £5,000-a-year extra and free travel?
One can hardly blame them for taking the bait while on Sussex pay.
