Workers across the South-East will be given the chance to improve their skills.

The Government has given £9 million for new Union Learning Fund projects.

The fund enables unions to help workers benefit from learning opportunities in areas ranging from IT and languages to basic literacy and numeracy.

One project will focus on health care.

It will develop union learning representatives, improve access to learning for part-time, low paid workers, provide basic skills training and work with employers to improve retention, skills and employment.

It will be undertaken by Unison working with Brighton Healthcare NHS Trust and Brighton and Hove City Council.
