An Eastbourne teenager broke down in tears as she told a jury how she was raped and brutally beaten in her own home.
The 19-year-old was giving evidence behind a screen at Lewes Crown Court to protect her identity.
Daniel Jessup, 20, of Petworth Place, Hampden Park, Eastbourne, has denied two charges of raping the girl on the night of September 15 2002.
Jessup has also denied falsely imprisoning her. He has admitted a charge of wounding the girl but told police she consented to sex.
The jury heard Jessup and the girl had known each other before the assault, which occurred when he visited her flat in the town centre.
After an argument the girl said Jessup, a builder, violently attacked her before raping her.
She said he punched her at least 30 times and threw cups and ornaments at her.
At one point he threw her into a cupboard where he then threw a glass bottle at her. It narrowly missed her head.
The woman alleged he threatened to kill her and she submitted to sex because she feared he would beat her again.
She said: "He said if I didn't stop screaming he was going to kill me. I remember him saying he was going to stab me."
At the first opportunity, she said, she escaped from the flat and ran for help.
Diane Chan, prosecuting, told the court the girl had been frightened for her life. She said: "Giving in because you think you are going to be killed or beaten is not consent, it is submission."
The trial continues.
