Like Derek Chapman, I have received Lewes District Council's demand for council tax in excess of £2,000.
This, of course has to be paid out of taxed income and coincides with an increase in my OAP allowance of nearly £2 a week.
Unlike Brighton and Hove, neither Lewes District nor East Sussex County Council made any effort whatsoever to canvass their residents' opinion before leading the opposition to the proposed football stadium at the public inquiry and incurring very substantial expenditure on our behalf.
My bet is that, had a referendum been held, the majority would have been in favour of the stadium. As it is, we who support it are being asked to pay for the councils' opposition to it on top of what would anyway have been a substantial increase in council tax.
Perhaps the officers who took these decisions should pay for the councils' participation in the inquiry themselves.
