Alison Moyet deserves the title of diva for the generosity in her presence and performance.

With a career spanning two decades, she has established herself as one of the country's most significant talents, with album sales of more than 20 million and three Brit Awards to date.

Her exceptional voice first came to the world's attention when she was half of Yazoo, the successful synth-pop duo formed in 1981 with Depeche Mode keyboard player Vince Clarke.

Despite the duo's enormous commercial success, they decided to split in 1983 and Alison immediately began working alone.

Hits such as Love Resurrection, All Cried Out and Invisible won her the Brit Award for Best British Female Solo Artist in 1985, while her album took Alison into the US top 40 for the first time.

In 1985 she took a break from pop music, embarking on a tour with a jazz band led by John Altman.

Among the jazz standards she performed was the Billie Holiday song That Old Devil Called Love.

She returned to the pop world in 1986 with the single Is This Love? while her second album Raindancing featured a further hit single, Weak In The Presence Of Beauty.

Alison has enjoyed less chart sweeps with her last few album releases but 2001 heralded her acting debut, starring alongside Denise Van Outen in the West End musical Chicago.

The latest Hometime album has been heralded by critics as her best yet.

It is Alison's fifth solo studio release and comes eight years after her last, Essex. Featuring 11 new recordings it is an album of the highest quality and will undoubtedly attract a new following.
