As a long surviving immigrant to Rottingdean, I can still remember when the area surrounding the site of the proposed Tesco store was, indeed, very quaint and unique.
Sadly, we lost it in the path of progress in 1933.
I can understand the reasons both for and against this proposal.
Basic necessity shops keep disappearing when their owners retire, to be replaced by non-edible services, while the population keeps increasing.
This is easily coped with by car drivers but not by non-drivers, elderly and handicapped people and the simply very busy person.
However, I think all are agreed that 24-hour opening is unnecessary in Rottingdean and undesirable for those who still live in close proximity to this site.
If Rottingdean supported two grocers in 1919, it can certainly support two now.
