A cargo ship has undergone repairs after being anchored off Eastbourne for 48 hours following a serious fire.

The blaze broke out on the 29,000-ton Oriental Highway on Friday, 15 miles off Eastbourne.

The Liberian-registered car transporter was carrying 480 German cars when fire ripped through its hold.

About 30 Volkswagen and Audi A3 and A4 cars were destroyed by the blaze, believed to have been caused by a car's electrics.

Nine marine firefighters were winched aboard by a coastguard helicopter.
