A policeman was involved in a car crash as he attended an accident on a busy main road.
The officer's car was in collision with a Ford Fiesta which was caught up in the tailback caused by the first crash.
The policeman, aged 31 and based with the Bexhill Road Policing Unit, was taken to the Conquest Hospital in Hastings with whiplash injuries but later discharged.
The Ford Fiesta driver, a 19-year-old woman, was also taken to the Conquest but was released following treatment to minor injuries.
The policeman was on his way to an accident involving a red Jaguar XJ6 and a Scania HGV lorry in London Road, Flimwell, at 7.40am on Saturday.
Police said that after colliding with the lorry, the Jaguar then collided with a white Volkswagen Caddy van travelling south.
The Jaguar driver, aged 53, and his 49-year-old female passenger, were taken to the Conquest Hospital with neck and chest injuries.
The 30-year-old Caddy van driver also suffered back and neck injuries and he too was taken to the Conquest.
The crashes closed the busy A21 at Flimwell, near Hastings, for more than three hours as traffic police carried out inquiries.
Meanwhile, in a separate collision on Saturday morning, a motorcyclist sustained serious injuries when his machine left the road.
His red Honda motorcycle crashed on the A26, near the Budletts roundabout, Maresfield, near Uckfield, at 11.30am.
The rider, a man aged 47 from Kent, was taken to hospital with leg and chest injuries. Officers from the Road Policing Unit at Polegate are investigating.
None of the injured have been named by Sussex police, who operate data protection guidelines.
