Sammy Donnelly insists he is as ambitious as ever after being confirmed as the new manager of County League Division One side Three Bridges.

Donnelly, who has been in management for 30 years, says he is hungry to be successful after taking over from Micky Taylor who resigned last week.

The experienced Donnelly informed Southwick he was resigning before Saturday's 2-1 win at relegated Littlehampton and he is hoping they will accept his reasons for leaving.

He said: "I leave Southwick in good health. I managed to keep them up last year, albeit through the back door.

"I leave them in a top six spot and with a trophy (RUR Cup) already under their belts."

Donnelly revealed that Bridges got their man at the second attempt.

He explained: "This time last year I was offered a job at Three Bridges but I turned them down because I thought we would be relegated and out of loyalty to Southwick I wanted to stay.

"This week I found myself in a position where I was offered the job again and I found it was too good to turn down.

"They are an ambitious club with everything in place and they want to go forward and win things.

"Three Bridges match my ambitions as a manager in as much as they want to progress.

"I am hungry for success. If you ask me what I want to win, I will say everything."

Donnelly will take coach Fred Proto with him and he is also promoting Derek Pyle from reserve team manager to assist with the first team.

Goals from Graham Martin and Carl Dunk gave Southwick the points in Donnelly's last match in charge.

Next season Donnelly will be hoping to challenge for the title but this season's championship is almost certainly going to Burgess Hill.

The Hillians will be crowned champions if they beat Whitehawk at Leylands Park tomorrow after closest rivals Horsham YMCA slipped to a 2-0 defeat at East Preston.

First half headers from Matt Huckett and Josh Biggs were enough to give EP victory.

Manager Vic Short said: "I thought we did well at Burgess Hill last week. We carried it on this week and got the result we deserved."

Chichester fancy their chances of pipping YM to second spot after a 5-0 win at Peacehaven.

Tony Stephens set up the opener for Roger Moore and hit the third himself.

Paul Thomas volleyed one in and there were good finishes by substitute James Wills and Neil Murfin.

Whitehawk's top two chances receded when player/boss Ian Chapman missed a sitter late in the 1-1 home draw with Sidlesham.

He admitted: "I was only six yards out."

Mark Wozniak put Sidlesham ahead after a slick move but 16-year old Joe Keehan shone in midfield as Hawks responded.

Chapman was felled for the equalising penalty, put away by Dean Venton.

Redhill powered into a three-goal lead but ended up hanging on for a 3-2 success at Shoreham.

Steve Gillett's near post finish, an own goal forced by Jamie Sinclair and a Ben Monger effort put Ian Dawes' men in charge.

Nick Bridle made the most of a goalkeeping error and Dominic Shepherd converted a penalty to rally the hosts.

Pagham also raced into a 3-0 lead and they completed a pretty comfortable 4-2 success at free-falling Arundel.

Ringmer won 1-0 at Wick thanks to a late penalty from Warren Byerley. The match seemed to be heading for a goalless draw until Paul Thomsett was brought down in the penalty area with five minutes to go.

A 72nd-minute goal from Graham Beveridge was enough to give Hassocks a 1-0 win at home to ten-man Sidley who had Matt Dadswell sent off after ten minutes for a professional foul on Matt Simpson.

Selsey twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Hailsham Town, who netted through Scott French and Leon Legge. Barry Rishman hit the first equaliser and substitute Derek Chester secured a point with a goal less than five minutes after being introduced.

Rye and Iden were promoted from division two despite losing 2-1 at home to rivals East Grinstead Town.
