Pensioners across Sussex will be able to travel on coaches for half price from next month.
Elderly people with a half-fare bus pass will be able to use it on coach rides under a new government scheme.
Coach operators taking part in the initiative will be given government grants to cover the costs, although it is voluntary. National Express has agreed to take part.
The Brighton, Hove and Portslade branch of Age Concern has welcomed the scheme.
Director Dorothy Engmann said: "This is a very positive step. Transport is a major issue for older people. Very few pensioners can afford to run their own cars and others can no longer drive.
"It is encouraging that National Express has opted to implement the scheme and I only hope other companies will follow its lead."
Brighton Kemp Town MP Des Turner has also welcomed the move, which will extend to disabled people with reduced-rate bus passes. He said: "I'm urging all coach companies to sign up to the scheme so pensioners and disabled people get the best possible deal."
