A man was attacked by a mob of teenagers as he walked along Eastbourne seafront.
Three youths repeatedly punched and kicked the 60-year-old man in Royal Parade.
Police said the attack lasted just minutes but gave the man two black eyes and bruising to his head and arms.
He was taken to the Eastbourne District General Hospital for treatment before being discharged following Sunday's attack.
Police said all three offenders were in their late teens and had local accents. The main attacker had a round, youthful-looking face, according to the victim.
Anyone with information should call Eastbourne police.
