A man who tried to smuggle drugs into a prison on the Isle of Wight has been jailed for two years.
Richard Murphy, 39, of Morrell Avenue, Horsham, was caught trying to sneak 2.6g of cannabis into Camp Hill Jail, near Newport, on the island on Christmas Eve 2001.
Murphy, 39, pleaded guilty to possessing the drug but denied intending to supply it.
He was found guilty of the supply charge at the IW Crown Court in February 18 but sentencing was adjourned to a hearing yesterday.
Michael Selfe, defending, said: "It is an extremely small amount and my client has not committed an offence since that date."
Judge Tom MacKean sentenced Murphy to two years and said: "This is a very serious offence in any circumstances but to supply drugs to a prison is even more so.
"They lead to unrest and trouble among the prisoners."
No separate penalty was made for the offence of possession.
