Two teenagers are believed to have started a car fire which sparked a health scare when flames engulfed a West Sussex barn last night.
Firefighters feared potentially dangerous asbestos was released as flames took hold of the roof of the barn at Walberton Farm in Yapton Lane, Walberton, at 6.30pm.
Fire crews had to wear protective clothing and breathing masks to stop them breathing in the toxic fumes.
Fire chiefs said today that they believe the car fire was started deliberately.
Two teenagers were spotted running away from the car shortly before it burst into flames.
The blaze took minutes to spread to the nearby barn.
Divisional officer Mike Adams said: "Two youths aged approximately 13 were seen interfering with the car just before it was seen to burst into flames.
"One was wearing a bright red hooded top and the other a dark jacket.
"They ran off north towards the footpath between Binsted and Walberton."
Mr Adams added: "If anyone has any information regarding this deliberate fire please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
About 600 tonnes of bailed straw was destroyed in the blaze, which took two hours to bring under control.
Fire crews were still dousing the scene of the fire this morning.
