I have good news for Brian Hitchins on his concerns for Brighton and Hove City Council's proposals for traffic flow around Palmeira Square, Hove (The Argus, April 7).
Local ward councillors have undertaken extensive consultations with residents and traders to assess their views on the council's plans.
The points Mr Hitchins eloquently expresses sum up a good majority of opinion raised both through the consultations run both by us, as the ward councillors, and the formal consultation undertaken by the council itself last month.
After pressing for these views to be taken into account, I am pleased to say the council's officers and consultants have developed two new options.
One is, essentially, no change to the traffic flow except improved crossing points - an area not disputed in the consultation.
The other alters the traffic flow but still allows traffic to the south.
I will ensure Mr Hitchins receives further details of these options and has a chance to express his views on them.
Any resident or business who has not yet expressed views or wants further information on the new options can do so by calling me on 01273 291162 or emailing paul.elgood@brighton-hove.gov.uk.
So far, from our soundings, traders and residents have expressed the overwhelming view for the first option of no change to the traffic flow and improved crossing points.
This we are pressing the council to adopt.
