As a local resident of the Knoll area of Hove and an active member of the community, I wish to address claims made in the Labour Party newsletter Labour Delivers, which says Labour "equipped the Knoll recreation ground with a multi-games pitch, two new playgrounds, a skateboard area and improved the Pavilion".
Apart from the Pavilion, the improvements were made using Single Regeneration Budget funds from the Government.
The Hangleton and Knoll Project managed the projects as directed by a committee of members of the community.
Extensive consultation was made with the community before any work was undertaken.
The work was done in partnership with the Community Hangleton and Knoll Project and Brighton and Hove City Council.
The Pavilion was improved using Gas Pipeline money, again in consultation with the community.
Next, the newsletter claims Labour "developed an all-weather sports pitch, a grass football pitch and landscaped a quiet garden in the park at Hangleton".
The same process was used as before and the same partnership developed this area.
Next, "provided community buildings in Hangleton and on the Knoll". Although unable to comment on the building at Hangleton, St Richard's Church and Community Centre was planned, fund-raised and developed by local residents, Knoll Community Association, the Church of England and the Hangleton and Knoll Project.
The refurbishment of the church was done using Single Regeneration money, again in partnership with the Community Hangleton and Knoll Project and Brighton and Hove City Council.
And next, "planted 20,000 daffodils, 10,000 snowdrops and crocus (now in bloom), 13,000 shrubs over nine acres and 168 trees".
Again, this was done with Single Regeneration money in joint partnership.
In addition, the Labour candidates are calling themselves a "Community Action Team".
However, a local group held a public meeting in July 2002 and became the constituted Community Action, which meets every six weeks to address issues within the local communities of Hangleton and Knoll.
I hope people will not confuse the two.
It would be good if credit and respect were given to members of the community who work so hard to improve the living conditions for all residents.
