I agree with Trevor Pateman regarding the burning of the West Pier (Letters, April 2).
It seems very possible it was deliberately set on fire.
I can remember two very similar incidents of historic buildings mysteriously burning down and being rebuilt with concrete eyesores, the Town Hall in Hove and the Bedford Hotel on Brighton seafront.
Longstanding Brightonians are appalled their historical buildings have been allowed to get so run-down and their town (now city) is dirty and unkempt.
It is mainly newcomers who want to pull down Brighton and build another Las Vegas.
