The leader of Worthing Borough Council said talks were being held to find a site for gipsies and travellers in the town.
Councillor Sheila Player said there was no chance of Brooklands in East Worthing being used but talks were taking place with Arun District Council with a view to finding a joint area where they could stay.
She said: "As of today, no site has been identified although we are exploring an option in Littlehampton.
"Worthing borough has very little land where we can put such a site. And no, they are not going on Brooklands."
Coun Player was responding to a question from Councillor John Livermore.
