Drivers in Eastbourne will pay up to 50 per cent more for off-street parking.
An hour will now cost £1.50 at the Wish Tower, £1.40 at Hyde Gardens and seafront car parks, £1.20 at Beachy Head and £1.20 at Devonshire Park and Congress House.
The previous fee was £1 at all venues.
Lib Dem-run Eastbourne Borough Council said the move would help fund other transport services.
Council leader Beryl Healy said: "The money raised will be ploughed back into other transport issues.
"We have already given £67,000 this year towards concessionary bus fares and we will continue to work hard to improve transport."
Tory opposition leader Graham Marsden said the rises could deter visitors and businesses.
He warned of a possible backlash, adding: "This overall hike of £105,000 in parking charges is not only a very risky gamble but will put people off visiting our seafront facilities and local shops.
"Astronomical increases of this size threaten the viability of local traders and the principle of stop and shop."
Earlier this month, increased parking charges at the Eastbourne District General Hospital and the Conquest Hospital in Hastings were announced.
