It was with sadness I saw the old flint wall fronting the Tesco site on New Church Road, Hove, has finally been demolished.
I believe one of the original proposals for this site would have retained at least part of this wall, which was attractive and part of our history and heritage.
Why things valued by the community have to be destroyed in the name of progress and commerce I will never understand.
I wish our planners and those allowed to build and "improve" our city would learn more sensitivity to these issues.
I am not, by the way, totally against this development, though I feel low-cost housing units would have been more appropriate than yet another supermarket.
