A young man was stopped by police after he was spotted waving a large sword around on a main street.
The 19-year-old had taken the sword, which was over 4ft, out to show friends.
A member of the public dialled 999 after seeing him in Sussex Road, Haywards Heath, at about 7pm on April 10.
Police officers traced the man to a nearby building, where the sword was confiscated.
The man was cautioned and reported for possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
Sgt Paul Cummins, of Haywards Heath Police, said: "The public is reminded that carrying anything of this nature in public is an offence and will be dealt with accordingly."
