You never quite know what to expect from Indian master percussionist Trilok Gurtu.
In his career to date, he has combined jazz, rock and African music with his grounding in the classical Indian tradition, the proportions of those elements changing as fast as he changes his line-up.
Yet no one could have been disappointed by his performance at the Corn Exchange, a wonderful fusion of Eastern and Western styles symbolised by the combined kit and tabla set-up that has become his trademark.
The other three members of the group were superb musicians but Gurtu stole the show with his seemingly effortless technical ability, not to mention hugely likeable personality.
From time to time, you hear it said of a particularly talented person that they have more ability in one finger than most of us have in our entire bodies.
Anyone who has seen Gurtu play tabla knows that, in his case, it's no exaggeration.
