Horsham were denied by Banstead Athletic keeper Paul Borg's heroics as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw despite dominating the match.
Steffan Ball fired Hornets into the lead on 21 minutes following David Flemming's flick-on.
Banstead's first threat came 12 minutes after the break but Horsham keeper Ian Chatfield's full stretch save kept out Aaron Smith's half-volley. Three minutes later Borg turned a looping Ball header around the post.
He also kept out a powerful 30-yard free-kick from Lee Carney while his defence came to the rescue when a Gary Charman header bounced over him but was headed off the line.
Banstead took advantage of a lapse in Horsham's concentration on 82 minutes when James Greenaway tapped in at the far post to level.
Horsham boss John Maggs said: "For 80 minutes we looked like a premier side and they looked like a division two side. We dominated the game but we have to learn to kill sides off."
