Campaigners who fought to save a West Sussex hospital from closure have been thanked for their efforts.
In a letter to the Friends of King Edward VII Hospital in Midhurst, the hospital's director of development, Tricia Saunders, said their support had been invaluable in securing the future of the site.
Private healthcare company Capio Healthcare UK is part of a consortium of buyers interested in taking over the King Edward.
They plan to develop a building next to the main hospital site which will be used to treat thousands of NHS and private patients every year.
The main hospital, a former TB sanatorium, will be converted into flats.
In her letter, Mrs Saunders said: "You will have heard the wonderful news of the plans to ensure Midhurst will continue to be developed as a centre of medical excellence for the community.
"Capio has a large network of 21 hospitals and recognise the unique nature of this hospital.
"The great news is that they are also committed to treating NHS and private patients in their hospitals.
"This will be a fantastic solution to the problems we have faced in recent months. The amazing support of the community has continued and this was key to the successful package."
A planning application for the development is expected to be submitted to Chichester District Council this week.
