A heron found trapped in pond netting has been temporarily adopted by an animal lover.
The wading bird, nicknamed Herry, was left exhausted after struggling to free itself from netting in a garden pond in Bolney.
Roger Musselle, who runs Roger's Wildlife Rescue from his home in Woodingdean, Brighton, found the heron in a nearby field after residents alerted him to its plight.
Mr Musselle, 58 and his wife Fleur, 32, have been caring for their new feathered friend since Thursday night.
Herry is the second heron to be a guest at the couple's home. They are also helping to nurse one found in Dean Way, Hove, with an abscess on its wing.
Both birds have refused to eat fish supplied by the couple and are instead being fed chicks, usually reserved for birds of prey.
Mr Musselle said: "You have to be very careful when handling the birds because they have very strong necks and sharp beaks.
"We hope to release them back into the wild within the next couple of weeks."
