John Parry loses his usual clarity when trying to link the war in Iraq with the election to see who will guide our city for the next four years (The Argus, April 11).
There are very strong views across the country and in all political parties about the war.
He argues that few can now doubt it was "our moral duty" to rid Iraq of "the misery and oppression of a dictator as dreadful as Hitler or Stalin".
I suspect the majority of readers would agree - but not all.
What is truly bizarre is he then goes on to say that if you are against British soldiers ever having taken part in this war, then vote for any candidate in the local election other than a Labour one.
This election, John, is about the future of Brighton and Hove - something I know you are passionate about.
I would hope that no candidate, from any political party, would want to see themselves elected because of what has happened in Baghdad.
I sincerely hope that when readers cast their votes they will be making a judgement about who has the most convincing vision for our city.
These elections are important for local people - they should not be turned into a protest vote either for or against the toppling of Saddam Hussein.
-Ken Bodfish, Leader, Brighton and Hove City Council
