It is not up to pro-national park campaigners to prove the majority of people want a South Downs National Park as Councillor Peter Jones asserts (The Argus, April 10).
Virtually every opinion poll, local authority survey and Countryside Agency consultation on the South Downs National Park proposals has shown the public overwhelmingly supports the National Park.
As a democratic leader, Coun Jones should listen to and respect the views of his constituents, which makes East Sussex County Council's continued opposition to a South Downs National Park hard to justify.
