West Hill's Conroy Gaynor edged a majority decision over Spider Thompson (Onslow Lions) in the first bout of Hove's annual show at the Metropole Hotel last night.
The Hastings based boxer ended up with a bloodied nose, but the honours after a very close contest in which his taller opponent could have sneaked it on another night.
There was disappointment for junior Alex Bradbury (Gallus) who was beaten on a unanimous decision by Dougie Mew (City of Portsmouth).
Seaford junior Wally Fuller tasted his first defeat when he lost on a majority decision to Lennie Fletcher of Onslow Lions.
Luke Holmes (70kg) had Hove's first win of the night with a powerful display as he stopped Wayne Adams of Onslow Lions.
The heavy-handed Holmes tested out Adams's chin in the first round and was well on top by the bell.
In the second round a thudding body shot sent Adams to the canvas and he was counted out.
