Burning The Clocks, Brighton and Hove's spectacular winter ritual, has been secured for another year.
The parade is set to go ahead in December thanks to a substantial donation from American Express.
The company will help fund the public workshops where people can learn how to make the lanterns that are a feature of the unique event.
Amex will also fund the artists who make the large lanterns carried at the head of the parade. They are about 5m high and require six people to carry them.
Launched eight years ago, Burning the Clocks enjoyed growing popularity before being shelved in 2001 due to lack of funding.
It was reinstated last year and the organisers, Brighton-based community arts group Same Sky, are keen to ensure it continues.
Signifying the throwing out of the old and bringing in the new, last year's event formed the festive focus of Brighton and Hove City Council's Winter Festival.
Twenty thousand spectators descended on Brighton beach to celebrate the winter solstice amid a festival of fire and music.
Iain Cartwright, Same Sky's general manager, said: "The generous donation from American Express will cover one-third of the total cost. With this sum, we have a firm base to raise the remainder of the money."
Jo Crockett, spokeswoman for American Express in Brighton, said Burning The Clocks was a major community celebration that deserved financial support.
She said: "With over 600 participants and some 20,000 spectators last year, it's clear this is an extremely popular event.
"It not only offers a hugely enjoyable public spectacle but also gives residents a chance to participate beforehand and learn new skills."
Same Sky is keen to hear from other organisations that can offer financial help. They can call Iain Cartwright on 01273 573982.
