A Green electlon leaflet states that the St Peter's and North Laine ward is a Green ward. How?
It is a new ward to which no one has yet been elected.
Adam Trimingham (The Argus, April 7) writes that the ward is St Peter's "expanded to include North Laine". The new ward is, in fact, St Peter's plus North Laine and West Hill (two thirds of the old Seven Dials ward) and part of Hollingbury ward.
Both Seven Dials and Hollingbury are strong Labour wards and have been so for many years.
Hollingbury Labour Councillor Christine Simpson is a candidate in St Peter's and North Laine and so has no a less a claim to be a sitting councillor than the Green candidate.
Adam also claims Greens are strongly represented in Brighton and Hove City Council but three Green councillors out of 78 - one ward out of 16 - can hardly be regarded as strong.
The reality is, with new wards and a smaller council, voting Green and defeating Labour candidates could easily result in a Conservative- controlled council.
