I note that G Johnson (The Argus, April 15) thinks building the new community stadium at Falmer will cause traffic congestion on the B2123.
I assume his solution would be to build the stadium elsewhere - Waterhall, Toads Hole Valley, Shoreham Harbour, Hickstead or even an enlarged Withdean, perhaps?
Sorry, G Johnson, all road traffic travelling from Peacehaven, Saltdean, Rottingdean and Woodingdean will travel to these alternative sites along . . . the B2123.
The traffic argument rolled out by opponents to the new scheme simply does not hold true. At least by building the stadium at Falmer, the football club could be held responsible for dealing with any ensuing traffic problems.
Build the stadium at any of the alternative sites and the club cannot reasonably be expected to provide solutions to traffic travelling to remote sites via the Falmer Road.
By ensuring local railand bus transport is made readily available - as it is at Withdean - the suggested traffic problems simply will not materialise.
Yes, I am an Albion season ticket holder, yes, I do travel to and from all games by bus and yes, I do travel between Crawley and Saltdean every morning and evening along the B2123 so I am aware of every issue.
One quick and easy solution to Woodingdean's weekday evening traffic
problem would be to add an extra short lane at the traffic lights by Downs Hotel.
There is plenty of space to do so and it would ensure traffic wanting to continue southwards does not get held up for long periods by cars waiting to turn right westbound along Warren Road.
This would clear Falmer Road of its current traffic queues and solve the concerns of G Johnson.
