The former owner of a village tea room was accused of falsely describing the strawberry jam he served as home-made.
Christopher Endacott, 51, of Marine Drive, Rottingdean, is alleged to have committed the offences in April and May last year while he was the proprietor of The Old Cottage Tea Rooms, in Rottingdean.
He faces four allegations of breaching food labelling regulations under the Food Safety Act.
He is accused of making a false description on an advertisement board outside the premises stating: "We serve home-made strawberry jam and lemon curd with our cream teas."
He is also accused of selling a jar of "home-made extra fruit strawberry jam", which bore a label with a false description as the jam was not home-made.
The case was adjourned at Brighton Magistrates Court until May 1.
