A yachtsman had his vessel towed ashore after becoming exhausted as he sailed alone from Holland to Sussex.
The middle-aged American called coastguards for help seven miles south-east of Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne on Thursday at 11.15pm.
He had set off from Holland at about 6.30am before planning to moor at Eastbourne and then sail on to Portsmouth.
However, the Eastbourne Inshore Lifeboat was launched following his call and crew members placed a tow on board before bringing him into the harbour.
The man, originally from South Carolina, used bits of timber after his rudder broke en route from Holland to Eastbourne.
An Eastbourne RNLI spokesman said: "He told us he had done a lot of transatlantic voyages so he was obviously no stranger to travelling long distances.
"It appears he just became exhausted but after a rest he'll be fine."
