CCTV has never been the ultimate crime solver. Cameras are a useful deterrent and a back-up in obtaining evidence in court cases.
It is virtually impossible for them to record every single movement within the radius of their lens twenty-four hours a day, every day.
However, residents in North Moulsecoomb say the cameras on their estate are of little use because criminals are evading their gaze.
Cameras do a good job, are a worthwhile addition in the fight against crime and have obviously reduced crime on the estate.
But they are not the perfect answer to a crime-free Moulsecoomb.
The residents of the estate still need to report crime and the police still need to respond quickly to the crimes and a small minority of residents need to realise crime does not pay.
