A scar-faced attacker slashed a man with a knife after apparently mistaking him for his wife's lover.
The victim was assaulted in Comptons Lane, Horsham, on Monday evening.
His assailant accused him of having an affair with his wife, pulled out a kitchen knife and slashed him across the stomach.
It was only when the shocked man's sunglasses fell off that the attacker realised he had the wrong man and fled.
The victim was taken to Crawley Hospital and treated for cuts.
The offender was white, about 5ft 9in with blond hair and a 2in horizontal scar on his left cheek. He wore jeans, a blue jumper and white trainers.
The attacked happened at 7.15pm on Easter Monday. Police released details yesterday.
