Concorde could make one of its final appearances at this summer's Airbourne aviation spectacular in Eastbourne.

Tourism bosses in Eastbourne are in talks with British Airways (BA) to secure the supersonic jet for the four-day show in August.

BA plans to permanently ground the famous airliner in October, ending more than 30 years of faster-than-sound luxury travel.

Airbourne organisers hope BA will allow Concorde to display at the show from August 14 to 17 as a fitting finale.

Ron Cussons, Eastbourne Borough Council's director of tourism, said: "It would be a tribute for Britain's highest-quality airliner to make a final goodbye in front of an expected 500,000 aeroplane enthusiasts."

With a cruise speed of 1,350mph, twice the speed of sound, Concorde became renowned as an example of high-quality British innovation.

However, its service will end from October because BA and Air France say it is not economic.

The supersonic airliner has struggled to draw passengers following the Air France Concorde crash in Paris in July 2000, which killed 113 people.
