The legendary Tom Jones, British punk legends The Damned, alternative US rock band Folk Implosion and LA-based Devics are all in Sussex this week.
DEVICS, Freebutt, Brighton, April 27 Fresh from their single Red Morning and album The Stars At Saint Andrea, this Los Angeles-based trio are taking their sounds on a European tour. Their careful mix of acoustic twang and electronic soundscapes uses conventional rock instruments and has been likened to a cross between Mazzy Star and Portishead. Starts 7.30pm, tickets £4. Call 01273 603974 for details.
THE DAMNED, Pavilion Theatre, Worthing, April 30 When these British punk legends released New Rose in 1976 it was hailed as the first ever punk single and, years later, they are still at it. With non-stop performing throughout the UK and gigs at US festivals, the notorious live shows are still on top form. As an added bonus, guitarist Captain Sensible, famed for his solo hit Happy Talk in 1982, still entertains with his rants and rages. Starts 8pm, tickets £13.50. Call 01903 206206.
TOM JONES, Brighton Centre, Brighton, April 30 The dude in leather is hot to trot this year after winning an Outstanding Contribution to the Music Industry award at The Brits. His career has spanned three decades from his very early days as a sex symbol. You'll still want to get your knickers off and throw them at the stage. Starts 8pm, tickets £28.50. Call 0870 9009100.
FOLK IMPLOSION, Concorde 2, April 30 A US alternative rock duo originally comprising Lou Barlow of Sebadoh and solo artist John Davis, Folk Implosion came to prominence in 1996 when Natural One, included on the soundtrack to the controversial movie Kids, became a major US hit. Davis then retired but Barlow carried on to release the recent New Folk Implosion LP. Starts 8pm, tickets £10. Call 01273 772770.
