A van driver had to be cut free from his vehicle when it overturned on to its roof early today.

The man, believed to be in his 40s and from London, was taken to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, with minor injuries.

Fire crews had to use cutting and lifting equipment to release him from the wreckage after the van left the A27 between Chichester and Havant, rolled on to its roof and back into the carriageway, at 5.30am.

The busy coast road was closed for an hour.

Police said the cause of the crash was unknown and appealed for witnesses.
