I am pleased Rachael Webb (Letters, April 22) has invited candidates in the Rottingdean Coastal ward to state their position on the BNP, workers' rights and cuts in council services.
The Green Party has been unequivocal in its stance against the BNP and called on other parties to condemn the BNP's racist opportunism in standing in the forthcoming election.
Like the Greens, the Labour and Lib Dem candidates joined with local community group Saltdean for Tolerance and Respect (Star), trade union activists - including the TGWU - and other groups to produce a leaflet pointing out the evils of the BNP.
This has been distributed to every household in the ward.
Greens will stand up for the rights of workers wherever they are employed and we will continue to work closely with trade unions, such as the TGWU, Unison, the NUT and the GMB, on a wide range of issues where we have common ground, including employment rights.
On the issue of cuts to services, the current administration has wasted resources, while the new funding formula imposed by the Government has helped to create a £17 million hole in the accounts.
This has meant savage cuts, sell-offs and a massive hike in council tax in an attempt to balance the books.
The Greens will fight cuts that hit the most vulnerable and will argue strongly in favour of protecting essential services.
I hope this has clarified the Green Party's position on all these issues.
