Carlo Missirian knows the size of the task facing his Brighton side when they meet Lewes in tomorrow's Sussex Cup final.

Lewes boast home advantage for the final and play three leagues above Brighton in National League division two.

After beating another National League side, East Grinstead, in the semi-final, there is a feeling Brighton could cause a second major upset tomorrow.

But Missirian said: "We don't see ourselves as anything other than underdogs.

"When we played East Grinstead everything went for us.

"The pitch was very dry and slow, they didn't convert many of their chances while we had five clear-cut chances and scored three goals. We played very well that day, not that we can't again tomorrow.

"Our main aim, in terms of the cup, was to get to the final. Now we are there we will try to prepare correctly but it is a different ball game playing a National League side on their own pitch."

Brighton have already had a tremendous season, winning the Kent/Sussex Regional League and losing only one game in the process.

This is their fourth successive final, although this is the first time in a number of years that National League clubs have played in the Sussex Cup.

Missirian added: "I can hardly put it into words what it would mean to the club to win.

"We have been promoted to a level we have never played at before.

"To beat two National League teams to win the cup would be unprecedented. It would be an awesome achievement for the club.

"We won't be daunted by the scenario as we have played there before. We have won it twice and we know what it takes to win it."

Gareth Lendrum will be missing for Brighton but Pete Smales expects to play despite suffering a cut head in training on Wednesday. Graham Pruce, who retired from first team hockey during the season, will make a swan-song appearance.

Lewes will be without four regulars with Adrian Bettesworth, Carl Wright, Tim Garner and Matt Lloyd all unavailable.

Skipper Will Champness said: "Brighton have done well and are on a high. They have beaten East Grinstead and will be looking to beat us.

"The key thing is to enjoy it. If we play well, we ought to win. If we let people like Craig Carolan have lots of room, they will score goals."

There will be six finals at Lewes this weekend. Before the main competition, Eastbourne will meet South Saxons in the Plate final.

Both teams will be missing two players. Top scorer Kevin Williams and Robbie Redhead are out for Eastbourne while Saxons are without John Morgan and Tim Eldridge.
